Metrodome Roof Collapse from Midwest Blizzard

Vikings Stadium Suffers Roof Collapse
The Meteorwatch Blog takes a little detour to talk about the weather.  A powerful winter storm lashed the Midwest this weekend bringing blizzard conditions to the upper Midwest.  The snow was so heavy that it caused the roof of the Metrodome to collapse in Sunday.  Luckily, stadium officials foresaw the danger of the heavy snow on the roof and rescheduled the Giants and Green Bay NFL game until Monday night, to give a chance for crews to clear the snow.  Now it looks like the game will need to be re-scheduled again.  The snows will continue to track east across the Midwest and into the Ohio Valley over the next several days.

Cold airmass brings Clear Sky Viewing
The cold dry air that will move in to the area in the wake of the storm will great for sky watching conditions. The cold air holds less humidity, and the dry conditions help stargazing conditions.  In addition, the colder airmass from Canada will contain less pollutants to block viewing conditions.  However, it will make night time viewing conditions quite cold.  So remember to dress warm when you venture outside to take in  the night sky!
