Large Sunspot Poised to Launch Solar Flares at Earth

Last week's brilliant aurora display across the northern half of the United States may just be a precursor of more northern lights displays.  Spaceweather.com is reporting that sunspot AR1339 is rotating across the face of the earth and getting ready to start spewing large solar flares in the direction of Earth.  This particular sunspot fired a flare on the 3rd of November.  This flare was directed away from the Earth.  But now the sunspot will be facing closer to Earth as the flare moves along with the sun's rotation.

Space scientists have stated that this is one of the largest flares seen in may years.  The flare has a 20% chance of producing a large X-Class flare as it rotates around the surface of the sun. X-class flares are the strongest classification of solar flares and can produce radio blackouts and powerful radiation storms like the Aurora Borealis.
