Meteorite hits Doctor's Office in Virginia

The Chicago Sun Times reports via the Associated Press that a meteorite smashed onto an office building in Lortan, Virginia. This seems to be related to the reported daylight meteor over Virginia that was mentioned in the previous post on the Meteor Watch Blog. Either debris from its entry, or the main body of the space rock reached the earth's surface a little after 5:30 PM last Monday. This was at about the same time that a fireball was seen streaking across the skies fo Virginia.

The meteorite broke up into three pieces. The Smithsonian took a look at the debris which weighed in at about 10 pounds and confirmed that it originated from outer space.
